Indiana man taken into custody for going AWOL from Army 18 years ago

CLINTON, Ind. (WTWO)  – A Vermillion County man who was allegedly living under a fake name is wanted for army desertion.

Clinton Police were questioning a man about a battery at a local restaurant.

That man allegedly told police his name was Robert Eugene Bowmen.

However, when that name didn’t check out, police say he revealed his true last name as Brodbeck.

Authorities then discovered he was wanted on a warrant from 2000 for deserting the U.S. Army.

Police believe he’s been living under a fake name for about 18 years.

He’s being held in the Vermillion County Jail where he will await extradition by the U.S. Marshall’s Service.
