FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WISH) — Amazon announced in a statement celebrating the opening of its new Amazon Robotics Fulfillment Center in Fort Wayne Sunday.

The facility is the first Amazon center where employees will work with robotics technology, making the fulfillment center the first of its kind in Indiana.

Mayor of Fort Wayne, Tom Henry, says the investment made by Amazon in Fort Wayne will bolster the city’s growth and position the city as a business leader.

“Amazon is a valued partner in our community. We appreciate their commitment to Fort Wayne as we work together to make a lasting and meaningful difference,” Henry said in a statement.

Travis O’Neill, general manager of the Amazon robotics facility, says in a statement he is excited for the launch and for the diverse team he will be working with.

“We’re excited to officially launch our next-generation Amazon Robotic fulfillment center, and we’re thrilled to create great local jobs in a safe, engaging, and fun work environment where people can grow their careers in Fort Wayne,” O’Neill said in a statement.

The facility is 630,000 square feet, employing approximately 1,000 members in the Fort Wayne area. Employees will work with robotic technology to pick, pack, and ship small orders, such as books, electronics, and more.
