Girl, 12, killed in northern Indiana hit and run
AKRON, Ind. (WISH) — A 12-year-old girl was killed and a 15-year-old boy was injured after a hit and run in Fulton County on Friday.
According to the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a call just before 7:30 p.m. in regards to several children walking on State Road 19, just north of County Road 50 North.
The caller said that it was dark outside and the juveniles were wearing dark clothing.
While on the phone, the caller said one of the juveniles may have been struck by a passing vehicle.
Upon arrival at the scene, first responders found a boy, 15, who had been struck by the rearview mirror of a vehicle. The teenager was taken to a Fort Wayne hospital in serious but stable condition.
Authorities said that during the investigation, they learned that a juvenile was missing from the group.
After a search, the missing girl, later identified as 12-year-old Brelynna Felix, was located in a field near the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The vehicle that struck the children did not stop and was not at the scene when first responders arrived.
On Saturday, the suspect’s vehicle was located in Akron. The suspect, Gage Rogers, 26, was taken into custody.
Rogers faces preliminary charges of leaving the scene of a fatal accident and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury.
