(WISH) — A pair of Hoosier birds will be saved from the Thanksgiving table this year.
The White House announced Friday that this year’s pardoned turkeys were raised in Indiana.
The National Turkey Federation presents two birds to the President each year.
The tradition dates back to 1947 when President Harry Truman pardoned the first holiday bird.
Purdue University announced Monday that its Department of Animal Sciences in the College of Agriculture will provide a home and care for turkeys after this week’s National Thanksgiving Turkey Presentation at the White House.
