Warming centers and overnight shelters open during winter storm

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Here is a list of warming centers and overnight shelters opening in Indiana.

Indianapolis

Indy Parks says three facilities will have “extended hours” for warming centers.

  • Washington Park Family Center will be through 8 a.m. Sunday. Cots and basic supplies will be available to people staying overnight.
  • Garfield Park and Thatcher Park family centers will be open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Garfield Park Burello Family Center will be open Dec. 24 at 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

Anderson

The Main Straight Church of God, 4211 Main St., will open at 6 p.m. Thursday through noon Monday as a warming station.

Bloomington

Monroe County Emergency Management is opening warming centers. They will be open from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday-Monday at these Bloomington locations:

  • Bloomington Fire Department Station Headquarters, 226 College Ave.
  • Bloomington Fire Department Station 2, 209 S. Fairfield Road.
  • Ellettsville Fire Station – 5080 W. State Road 46.
  • Monroe Fire Protection District – 5081 N. Old State Road 37.

Additionally:

  • The Community Kitchen, 1515 S. Rogers St., will be open from 3 p.m.-6 p.m. Saturday.
  • The Shalom Community Center, 620 S. Walnut St., will open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday and serve lunch.

Gary

  • Calumet Township Multipurpose Room, 1900 W. 41st Avenue, will be open 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Brother’s Keeper, 2120 Broadway, will open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. (Men only)
  • Amberridge-Mann Community Center, 2822 west 4th Avenue, will open 6 p.m.-7 a.m.

Hobart

The Public Safety Facility, 705 East 4th Street, will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.

Muncie

  • Center Township Trustee Office, 1200 E Main Street, will be open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • The Muncie HUB, 318 W 8th Street, will be open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-12 p.m., 1 p.m.-4 p.m.
  • YWCA, 310 E Charles Street, will be open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, 7 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Salvation Army, 1015 N Wheeling Avenue. will be open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
  • Muncie Mission, 1725 S Liberty Street, is open everyday, 24 hours.

Plainfield

  • Family Promise of Hendricks County, 238. N. Vine St., will be open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday. The homeless service will be open Sunday. (317)-694-5097.
  • Plainfield-Guildford Township Public Library, 1120 Stafford Road, will be open from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday depending on the weather.

Richmond

The Hutton Room of the Richmond Municipal Building, 50 N. Fifth St., will open at 8 p.m. Thursday through 8 a.m. Monday as a warming station. The Richmond Fire Department and other city team volunteers will be available at the station. Water and restrooms will be available.

Shelbyville

  • The Shelby County Emergency Management Agency and the county Health Department will open a warming shelter at 6 p.m. Thursday until Sunday. The address is Shelbyville Parks Department Gym, 945 S. Tompkins St.
  • Shelbyville Parks and Recreation Gymnasium 945 South Thompkins, will serve as a warming shelter Thursday to Sunday.

South Bend

  • Charles Black Community Center, 3419 W Washington St., will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Howard Park Event Center, 219 South St. Louis Blvd., will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
  • O’Brien Fitness Center, 321 East Walter St., will be open 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday
  • Miracle Revival Church, 415 W Lasalle Ave, will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday to Sunday
