Indiana school district buys 3 eco-friendly propane buses

AUBURN, Ind. (AP) – A northeastern Indiana school district has added three eco-friendly buses for the upcoming school year.

The DeKalb County Central United School District says in a news release that the buses are fueled by propane autogas. The district is replacing its 12-year-old diesel buses with the new buses.

The school district says it wanted the new buses because they will cut greenhouse emissions and have reduced maintenance costs.

Two of the buses are on site and the third is to be delivered. The school district purchased the Blue Bird Propane Vision buses from MacAllister Bus Sales. The news release didn’t say how much the district paid.

DeKalb Central Superintendent Sherry Grate said the district is trying “to be as innovative and energy efficient as possible” in a “time of diminishing resources.”
