Indianapolis Zoo welcomes newborn giraffe
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Zoo has added a new resident to its animal community.
The male reticulated giraffe born on Jan. 9 is the Zoo’s first birth of 2016 and is already six feet tall.
The zoo says both baby and the mother, 18-year-old Takasa, are doing well.
A message announcing the Zoo’s newest community member was posted to their Twitter account.
However, the public will not be able to view the Zoo’s latest addition until at least the spring.
The baby giraffe will stay in a secluded, climate-controlled area for duration of the winter to help ensure the health and safety of the newborn.
