IndyCar: Chevy reveals road course aero kits

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis Motor Speedway was hopping Tuesday morning as nearly every IndyCar driver on the schedule met with reporters for IndyCar Media Day.

Chevy revealed its new road course aero kits, which have been four years in the making.  Some drivers had a hand in testing different pieces of the new kit, but no one has tried out the full model.

“You would think that I would know what it would look like, but that’s really not the case,” said Ryan Hunter-Reay of Andretti Autosport.  “It’s been evolving so fast.”

Drivers won’t be able to test out the new kits until mid-March, just a few weeks before they open the season in St. Pete.

Penske’s Juan Pablo Montoya feels he’s well equipped to adjust quickly after driving in Formula One for five seasons.  He thinks having a big team like Penske will help them figure out the new kit.

“We are going to have enough testing before the first race that I think we all are going to be on the same page,” said Montoya.  “One of the cool things about having all four of the drivers is each one goes its little way.  Someone gets it wrong, and someone gets it right, so you can learn a lot from people like that.”

The aero kit design for racing on ovals will be revealed later in the offseason.  Honda’s aero kits will be revealed in mid-March.
