IDOE names learning centers program recipients

INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) – The Indiana Department of Education has announced recipients of the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant program. The more than $10 million in funding is used to support out-of-school activities such as tutoring and mentoring, academic enrichment and service learning, among others.

The funding is being allocated to 45 out-of-school learning programs, including 16 new programs and 29 that are being renewed.

“Funding provided by the 21st Century Community Program is critical in addressing low student achievement,” said State Superintendent Dr. Jennifer McCormick. “We are pleased to partner with the awarded recipients as we work to accelerate out-of-school learning and build local-level capacity.”

The IDOE says the 21st CCLC grant is continued through the implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act.

Additionally, parent, family and community engagement activities also receive support. The department says funding is made available to support the awarded programs for the next four years.
