LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) — The MatchBOX Coworking Studio in downtown Lafayette will Friday evening host an event aimed at bringing awareness to a growing area of local business. “Business of Bacteria” will showcase how fermentation is increasingly benefiting a variety of businesses, including breweries, wineries, farms and food producers.

The coworking space says the event will feature talks on topics such as the impacts of fermented products on gut health, industry trends in fermentation, and what it takes to build a brewing operation.

“Supporting regional entrepreneurs is important to us, and part of that is shining a spotlight on sectors where trends indicate potential for growth,” Juliana Casavan, operation manager at MatchBOX, said in a news release. “As consumers continue popularizing products like kombucha, craft beers, and pickled-everything, there’s an area of opportunity for local entrepreneurs to start or grow in that industry.”

MatchBOX cites data from Massachusetts-based market research firm BCC Research, which says the global category of fermentation saw $24 billion in sales in 2017. That number is expected to rise to $28.4 billion by 2022.

The event is being presented in partnership with Purdue University College of Agriculture’s networking series. You can learn more about the event by clicking here.
