Lafayette gets heavy snow, Indy sees little snowfall

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) – While Lafayette was covered in snow Thursday morning, Indianapolis got only about half an inch.

Snow piles could be seen around Tippecanoe County after road crews went through to plow overnight. Around 4:30 a.m., snow was still falling there, putting a fresh coating of snow on roads and sidewalks.

Hotels there filled up Wednesday night with people who said Interstate 65 was too dangerous to navigate.

In Marion, Boone and Hamilton counties – there wasn’t much to see Thursday morning. Roads and interstates were clear and wet, but that could make for a slick situation for the a.m. commute. Strong winds, too, could make driving a bit more difficult.

In terms of the roads, Indiana State Police said between 6 a.m. and midnight Wednesday, they responded to 280 crashes, 60 of which had injuries involved, 228 slide offs and 176 calls to help a motorist.WEATHER RESOURCES
