Lawrence police warning drivers of fake cop
LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) — Authorities in Lawrence are warning drivers about a fake police officer.
A man reported being stopped on I-465 near the Shadeland Avenue exit Friday afternoon, according to Lawrence police.
The fake officer stole cash and a cell phone after asking the driver to get out of his car, police say.
The driver said the car that pulled him over was a newer model dark gray Dodge Charger with flashing red and blue lights.
The fake officer was wearing a black T-shirt with the “Sheriff” printed on the back. He was described as a white man about 40 years old, 6 foot 2 inches tall, 200 pounds, shaved head, no facial hair and wearing blue jeans.
Lawrence police are reminding drivers to call 911 if a person claiming to be an officer appears suspicious.
