69-year-old man charged after cat in trap kicked into pond

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) — The Tippecanoe County Prosecutor has charged a man in connection to a video of a cat being drowned.

We previously reported on the video that was uploaded to social media on Nov. 23. The video has since been removed.

According to police documents Walter Baldwin admitted to trapping a cat in an animal trap in Tippecanoe County. He also admitted to taking the animal to a local pond, where the cat was allegedly kicked into the water by another person.

Baldwin told police he and that person didn’t want to shoot the animal because it would create a bloody mess. He also told police the video was taken on Thanksgiving Day. 

An arrest warrant has been made for Baldwin, according to the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office.

The 69-year-old West Lafayette man is now charged with five felonies:

  • Conspiracy to commit torturing or mutilating a vertebrate animal
  • Conspiracy to commit killing a domestic animal
  • Torturing or mutilating a vertebrate animal
  • Killing a domestic animal
  • Contributing to the delinquency of a minor
