Black Lives Matter mural along Indiana Avenue defaced
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Black Lives Matter mural painted along a portion of Indiana Avenue has been defaced.
The mural, which has Black Lives Matter spelled out through 18 different works of art painted by 18 Black artists, was installed last weekend. The painting was approved by the City-County Council in July and employees with Indianapolis Department of Public Works supervised the project.
It appears white, gray and brown paint was splattered across the entire mural.
Indy 10 Black Lives Matter responded to the vandalism, calling it “the cowardice of people who feel threatened by Black liberation and its laborers.”
According to an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer at the scene Sunday morning, the paint was splattered overnight between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.
An IMPD investigation of the incident is underway.
