KNIGHTSTOWN, Ind. (WISH) — An unidentified body was found after a house fire was extinguished Wednesday afternoon in Knightstown, a Henry County sheriff’s deputy said.

Knightstown Volunteer Fire Department and several other volunteer fire departments were called about 2:55 p.m. Wednesday to the fire in the 100 block of East North Street, said Maj. Jay Davis, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office chief deputy.

Firefighters had been told someone was possibly trapped inside the burning house.

An autopsy has been scheduled to learn the cause of death and to identify the person, Davis said. The State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Henry County Critical Incident Team are part of the investigation.

Knightstown is about 25 miles east of Indianapolis.
