Coronavirus, obesity and ‘near miss’ bias
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – On Friday, Indiana released the first report indicating the percentage of Hoosiers infected with the coronavirus by age group and gender.
As Hoosiers continue to take precautions, there’s a certain demographic that might not be adhering to guidelines as they should be.
On Monday WISH-TV’s medical reporter, Dr. Mary Gillis, D. Ed., was on Midday to discuss a behavioral concept called a “near miss” bias.
Gillis also talked about obesity as a disease, which puts individuals at greater risk of a COVID-19 infection. She encouraged viewers to pull out a tape measure to evaluate risk by measuring waist circumference.
