Crane used to rescue downtown Indianapolis construction worker hit by debris
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 42-year-old construction worker was hurt Tuesday afternoon when hit by debris, Indianapolis Fire Department and WIBC said.
Dispatch information showed Indianapolis Fire Department was sent to a rope rescue about 3:35 p.m. Tuesday at 421 N. Pennsylvania St., a construction site at Pennsylvania and Vermont streets. A 13-story building — with four levels of parking, and nine levels with retail space, 232 apartments and a pool — is being built on the site, according to online records.
WIBC, a News 8 newsgathering partner, reported the worker was lowered to the ground and taken to a hospital.
Indianapolis Fire Department on Tuesday night said the man was on the 11th floor when hurt, and the injuries were not believed to be life-threatening. A crane already on the construction site was used about 4:20 p.m. Tuesday to bring the man to the ground, where he was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital by a medic crew.
The fire department did not identify the man, but said he has worked for Ruscilli Construction for four years.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said it assisted at the scene.
