Kokomo plane crash kills 3, injures 1
KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) — Three people are dead and one is injured after a Sunday plane crash near the Glenndale Airport in Kokomo.
Authorities were called to the scene near 3460 S. 400 W. on reports of a plane crash around 11:30 a.m. When they arrived they found an airplane on fire in a field.
Investigators with the Howard County Sheriff’s Office said the plane was trying to land when it hit a pole, caught fire and landed north of the airport.
“We wanna find out what happened,” said Capt. Jordan Buckley, Howard County Sheriff’s Department. “Was it a plane malfunction? Was it a pilot malfunction? Was it weather? It could be anything. We definitely want to find the answer for the families, that’s pretty much the job from this point forward to give them the answers so they can get the closure.”
The plane was a single-engine Piper PA-32, according to the NTSB.
The identities of the victims had not been released on Sunday.
