INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — All locations, including bookmobile services, of The Indianapolis Public Library will be closed until further notice beginning Saturday at 5 p.m. to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

According to a spokesperson for the library, all public programs and special events at the locations are also being suspended.

The InfoZone within The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis closes at 5 p.m. Friday. The museum previously announced it would be closing for two weeks beginning Saturday through March 28.

“We did not come to this decision lightly,” said Indianapolis Public Library CEO Jackie Nytes in a press release sent to News 8. “We are closing to protect the health of our city, staff and patrons for whom we care deeply. Closing sooner will offer greater benefit to the social distancing effort to limit the spread of the COVID-19 coronaviris.”

Overdue items during the closure period have had due dates extended until the locations reopen.

The public is encouraged to visit the library’s online blog and social media accounts for updates on the closures.
