Pie exhibit ‘pops’ up at Newfields

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A new exhibit at Newfields called Pop Up: Pie is rich in food and rich in history. A portion of the museum has transformed into a 1930s and 40s style diner filled with pies and milkshakes.

However, the first pies in America were actually savory dishes such as lamb pie, chicken pot pie and the potato empanada which you can also try at the shop.

The pop-up exhibit explains the long history of pie in the U.S., including how it relates to travel. There are also spiked milkshakes and non-alcoholic milkshakes for kids to help wash down the sweet treats.

The exhibit is a preview of what’s to come this summer when Edward Hopper and The American Hotel opens on June 6. Both the Pie Shop and the exhibition celebrate travel and prosperity in the 30s and 40s.

The pop-up shop will only be around for a limited time, you can visit through May 24.
