Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign under way in central Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A sound of the season has returned to central Indiana.

The Salvation Army has begun its 2018 Red Kettle campaign. A kickoff was Tuesday at Castleton Square mall.

The iconic red kettles have already appeared in some locations, but will be out in full swing starting Black Friday, the traditional start of the holiday shopping season.

Bell ringers will be out collecting donations through Dec. 24, Christmas Eve.

Maj. Bob Webster with the Salvation Army said, “This is our most important event here in Indiana throughout the entire year. It raises the majority of the money needed to continue to do the programs that are so vital to everything The Salvation Army does in central Indiana.”

The goal is to raise $3.5 million this season through its radio-thon with News 8’s newsgathering partner WIBC, 93.1 FM. The radio-thon will be Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.
