INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Nakyla Williams was last seen Nov. 8, according to Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Investigators say she got into a truck driven by Destyn Hoyle along Kenmore Road.

A signal from Williams’ cellphone was picked up along Kentucky Avenue shortly after her disappearance. An area around the road was searched, but no sign of her was found.

Police believe Williams is in Flint, Michigan, with Hoyle.

Williams’ mother, Nakia Spurlock-Pope, says the U.S. Marshals Service is now also involved in the case.

Spurlock-Pope said she talked to Hoyle’s mother but couldn’t get any answers about her son. “She said he was in Mississippi. She kept saying the police had been to her home several times. She kept saying it, and I finally said, ‘Was he there? Did he talk to him or anything?’ She said , “No.’”

Community activist Terrance Hood criticized what he calls the lack of urgency from IMPD into finding Williams. “There are a lot of missing Black women out there, and the thing is they don’t get the same efforts from IMPD and other detectives as our counterparts,” he said.

IMPD would not comment on a report that a detective assigned to the case went on vacation after Williams was reported missing.

The agency says Nakyla’s case is active, and anyone with information should call the IMPD missing persons unit at 317-327-6160, call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477, or email missingpersonstips@indy.gov.
