Virtual fundraiser aims to save Indiana music venues

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A virtual tribute aimed at saving Indiana’s music venues will be streamed online later this month.

Indiana Independent Venue Alliance (IIVA), in partnership with Klipsch and 92.3 WTTS, will present “‘Til We Meet Again: A Tribute to the Writers & the Rooms” on May 17 at 6 p.m.

The two-hour show will allow viewers to see the faces behind some of Indiana’s well-known music and performing arts venues as well as the challenges they are currently facing during the coronavirus pandemic.

The show will also celebrate the music of Bill Withers, Adam Schlesinger and John Prine.

Guest appearances will be made by:

  • Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett
  • Author John Green
  • Klipsch CEO Paul Jacobs
  • Kenny Aronoff
  • Dave Lindquist
  • Doug Gillard
  • Jeffrey Hasson of Paradigm

“‘Til We Meet Again” will be streamed via Facebook Live and YouTube on a variety of partner channels. A full list of viewing options will be made available online before the program airs.

The show will help raise money to support venues facing possible closure due to the pandemic. According to IIVA’s website, more than 50% of Indiana’s live music venues are facing closure.

“Every dollar counts and many sponsors are matching fan donations — dollar for dollar,” IIVA said online.

Gov. Holcomb announced on May 1 that music and event venues can begin reopening in the state on June 14. Large venues will be allowed to open following social gathering guidelines. All venues should be able to open at full capacity beginning July 4.
