Man admits to shooting, critically hurting another man

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A man who opened fire on another in January, critically hurting him, admitted to the act.

Zanalynn Booker pleaded guilty Monday in Allen Superior Court to charges of criminal recklessness and battery related to the Jan. 11 shooting of Anthony Davis Jr. in the roadway on the 3300 block of Alexander Street, just north of Oxford Street.

Officers were called to that block around 7 p.m. that winter night to find multiple shots fired into a vehicle, and Davis hit in the face. A woman and child were in the car. The child was cut by glass when a window shattered, but the injuries weren’t serious.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a woman told police she was with her boyfriend – Davis – and his niece was in the car when the couple began to argue. The woman said they pulled over near Drexel and Alexander streets and she got out of the car. After the argument escalated to Davis pushing her, the woman said she went door-to-door for help, the affidavit said.

The woman said Davis tried to plead with her to get back into the car, but a car pulled up. The woman said she got into that car, the affidavit said.

Davis, then, approached and told its driver, later identified as Booker, to “get his girl out of the car,” the affidavit said. The woman said she heard Booker tell Davis not to “walk up on him,” then watched as he grabbed something and raised his arm. At that point, the woman said she heard Davis plead, “Don’t do this,” before some five gunshots rang out, the affidavit said.

The woman said she then found Davis on the ground.

Officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Gang and Violent Crimes Unit arrested Booker two days later.

Booker will be sentenced June 21.
