Man gets 20 year sentence for killing brother
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A Shelbyville man is headed to prison for killing his brother.
Pierce McDade Jr. has been sentenced to 20 years for voluntary manslaughter. Originally charged with murder, charges were lessened and a jury found him guilty.
McDade Jr. shot 36-year-old Artemus Smith on Jan. 12, 2015 after an argument.
Pierce McDade Sr. told police his sons had been arguing over “silly stuff.” After challenging Smith to go outside, McDade Sr. said his son brought out a handgun and shot Smith at least four times in a bedroom. Six shell casings were found in the bedroom.
In an interview with police, McDade Jr. said he was afraid Smith might stab him during the argument. He said Smith never actually pulled out a knife.
