Man gets 40 years after killing teen in 2013

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indianapolis man has been sentenced to 40 years after murdering a 19-year-old in 2013.

Michael Copeland was sentenced Wednesday for the shooting of Mitchell Lane, Jr. February 7, 2013 in the 3900 block Eastern Ave.

Copeland turned himself in a month later.

Copeland’s sentence is for 40 years with 10 years suspended. Copeland will serve 25 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections and five years in Marion County Community Corrections.

Copeland also received a concurrent sentence of six years for carrying a handgun without a license.
