Man pays speeding ticket with 22,000 pennies
FRISCO, TX (WCMH) – When he was found guilty of speeding, Brett Sanders decided to make a big spectacle of paying the fine.
Sanders says he didn’t feel like he did anything wrong when he was ticketed for doing nine miles per hour over the speed limit in one Texas neighborhood.
“I didn’t hurt anybody. I didn’t endanger anybody’s life,” he told NBC Chicago.
After putting all 22,000 pennies into five-gallon buckets, Sanders drove to the Frisco Municipal Court and dumped every one of them on the counter.
“It felt great. It really felt great,” Sanders said.
After gathering up the pennies, the court’s clerk took them to a Coinstar location where it took about three hours for them to count it.
Turns out, Sanders actually overpaid the city by $7.81.
I’m just going to go ahead and let them keep that,” he told NBC Chicago.
