Man throws feces in court after receiving 40 year sentence

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) – A man who was being sentenced for multiple armed robberies threw feces in a courtroom after he learned he would be serving 40 years in prison.

In court Wednesday, 46-year-old Ricky Hand asked the judge, “Did you just give me 40 years, sir? You just gave me 40 years. Well guess what?” and reached for something under his arm.

Officials say Hand hid pill bottles filled with feces and urine in an arm sling he was wearing. Within seconds of the outburst, courtroom officials were able to restrain Hand.

Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly says Hand committed at least 30 robberies and was out on parole before committing his latest crime in January.

The sheriff’s office is now investigating the courtroom incident.

“This man should’ve been more thoroughly searched prior to entering the courtroom. Our policy dictates that there’s a search prior to and there’s a search after he leaves and that was very apparently not done,” said Sheriff Kelly.

Hand could face a new felony charge.
