Mayor Joe Hogsett, Carrier Task Force discuss Rexnord’s decision to leave Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Mayor Joe Hogsett met with the Carrier Task Force on Wednesday to talk about Rexnord’s decision to leave Indiana and to come up with ways to help Rexnord workers who may soon be losing their jobs.

The Carrier Task Force was created after the Carrier plant announced earlier this year it would be moving its operations to Mexico, taking some 1,400 jobs with it. The group has been meeting regularly since to gather local, state, and federal resources and help displaced workers. Now, Hogsett is using this Task Force to come up with a game plan to help Rexnord workers.

Rexnord said it has “tentatively declined” it will move its Indianapolis operations to Mexico.

The United Steelworkers Union President told 24-Hour News 8 he is still taking with the company in hopes of saving the jobs. If Rexnord follows through with the decision to leave, it will be a done deal by June of next year.
