Mid summer heat settles in

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Our slow temperature climb continues as we head into the weekend.

Tonight:

Quiet conditions continue through this evening, with mainly clear skies across the area.  Pretty comfortable overnight temperatures, falling into the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Tomorrow:

More of the same, with mostly sunny to partly cloudy conditions.  Slight warmer temperatures, with highs in the middle 80s.

Weekend:

Overall, a very pleasant weekend on tap.  Expect relatively quiet conditions, with highs in the middle 80s both days.  A few light rain showers can’t be ruled out for southeastern portions of the state by Sunday afternoon and evening.

Hurricane Florence:

Florence is now a category 2 storm, with winds around 110 mph.  Eastern portions of North Carolina are already feeling the effects of the storm, and it will only get worse as we go into the evening and overnight.

Florence should make landfall overnight, and then take a turn to the southwest, briefly riding the coastline of South Carolina, before turning northwest by the middle of the weekend.

While high winds and storm surge will cause plenty of issues along the coastal Carolina region, the heavy rainfall will be the big story.  Some areas will likely be in the range of 20″-30″, with locally higher amounts possible along the North Carolina/South Carolina state line.  Massive flooding is expected in some of those areas.

8-day forecast:

Still up in the air if we see remnants of Florence or not, but worth a mention for a chance of showers on Monday.  The rest of the week looks quiet and warm, with highs slightly above average for the remainder of the extended.
