Mom has message for kids after son is critically injured

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Brittany Stier knows kids can play rough while having fun at a park. She said when another child pushed her child off a slide at Shoaff Park, it crossed the line and landed her son in critical condition.

“I turned around and he was at the splash pad,” Stier said. “The next thing I know, my sister is saying, ‘Adrian what’s wrong,’ and I look and he’s pale and he’s throwing up then he just collapsed.”

After collapsing, Stier said she rushed her 5-year-old son Adrian to the hospital, but had to pull over after he started having a seizure and called EMS. Once he was at the hospital and came to, he told his mom what happened.

“I was like, ‘Do you know where you’re at?’ He said, ‘Yeah I’m at the hospital,’” Stier said. “And I said, ‘Do you know what happened?’ and he said, ‘Yeah I hit my head.’ He’s like,’I was at the top of the stairs and some kids pushed me down,’” Stier said.

Adrian told his mom he was trying to go down a slide when he said an older kid pushed him. He was released from the hospital Sunday evening, but had another seizure later that night and has been in the ICU ever since.

Tuesday morning he got worse.

“About 4 o’clock this morning he went into another seizure episode,” Stier said. “Now he’s not speaking. He won’t talk and can barely open his eyes.”

It’s a popular time of year to play at a park. Stier just hopes kids will be more careful, and do what we’ve always been taught – play nice.

“I’m not looking to sue anybody or press charges,” Stier said. “I just want parents to know that their children are doing these things. Teach your children it’s not okay.”

Doctors determined Adrian is suffering from a severe concussion. However, doctors will continue testing him to rule anything else out.
