Names of victims in fatal Brazil house fire released
BRAZIL, Ind. (WISH) — Two young children and a woman have died after a house fire Monday in Clay County.
Fire crews were called to a fully engulfed home on Vandalia and Mechanic Streets in Brazil around 8:30 p.m.
Fire officials said a 4-month-old girl, her 18-year-old mother and a 4-year-old boy died in the blaze. The coroner’s office has identified the names of the three people who have died in the fire.
They have been identified as 4-month old Zoiey Alaweigh jane Tedder, 4-year-old Shyloi Leeland Dale Stewart and 18-year-old Raven Elizabeth Rose Tedder.
Shyloi was Raven’s little brother and the four-month old, Zoiey, was Raven Tedder’s daughter. The coroner’s office said all died of carbon monoxide intoxication and smoke inhalation.
A fourth person, a four-year-old boy, was transferred to Union Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
At least 11 people were living in the house, according to the Brazil Fire Department chief.
The Red Cross has assisted the family in finding a place to stay.
Firefighters fought the blaze until almost 1:30 Tuesday morning.
The Brazil Fire Chief said investigators will return Wednesday morning at 9 to continue their investigation.
He says they are not bulldozing the house tomorrow morning and added that they will be tearing down a wall so they can look further in the house in order to determine the cause of the fire.
Investigators say a cause for the fire may not be determined until Wednesday.
