NEW PALESTINE, Ohio (WFMJ via CNN) — A truck carrying 40,000 pounds of toxic soil from the East Palestine, Ohio, train derailment crashed and overturned Monday in Unity Township, Ohio.

State officials say roughly 20,000 pounds of soil spilled onto the roadway following the crash.

But officials say, there is no threat to the nearby waterways because the spill was contained.

The truck was traveling northbound on Route 165 when its right-side tires went off the highway. The driver then tried to steer back on the road when the truck overturned, spilling the soil.

The driver sustained minor injuries.

State officials say the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency responded to the scene.

Unity Township is where East Palestine is located.
