Photos of late Ben Davis student stolen from family
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The parents of a Ben Davis High School student who died last summer are now facing heartache all over again.
They told IMPD someone kicked in their door Tuesday afternoon and stole two iPhones and an iPad. The devices held thousands of their favorite pictures and videos of their late daughter.
Savannah Bettis died two weeks before her high school graduation last year. Police said she died from carbon monoxide poisoning from an exhaust leak in her boyfriend’s car. Her boyfriend lost control of the car but survived the crash.
Her parents, Wendy and John Bettis, said they came home Tuesday and found their front door kicked in. They said a thief ransacked the house and stole a T.V. and jewelry, but the family is only concerned about the phones and iPad.
“I don’t even have words,” Wendy Bettis said after the burglary. “My heart was ripped out the day my daughter passed away and my heart ripped again.”
The family said they still flip through Savannah’s phone, remembering the days when they had their daughter. Wendy realized the thief took the photos and she dropped to the ground in tears.
“That was another heartfelt moment for me that I just could not watch,” John Bettis said.
Wendy and John are offering a $1,000 reward for someone to return the phones and iPad.
“Those items were everything of my daughter and I just ask you and plead for you to return them,” Wendy Bettis said.
Neighbors said they spotted someone snooping through the neighborhood to see who was home. One witness described the man as about 5’10, 19-years-old. She said she also saw a black Cadillac on the street that she’d never seen before.
