Police: Known gang member arrested following standoff
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Police arrested a man who they say is a known gang member after a standoff on Warsaw Street Tuesday afternoon.
Detectives with the Fort Wayne Police Gang and Violent Crimes unit received information that Ku-La Lwin, 21, was inside a house in the 3200 block of Warsaw Street and that there were weapons inside. Other people in the house came out, but Lwin refused to cooperate with commands to come out.
Police made numerous attempts to call Lwin on the phone and used loud speakers to try to reach him. After several hours, police used a flash bang device and tear gas to try to get him to surrender. When that didn’t work, officers went inside and took him into custody.
He was checked out at a local hospital and booked into the Allen County Lockup.
Lwin had a warrant for failure to appear on a drug charge from earlier this month.
