Police looking for cemetery vandals in Shelby County
MORRISTOWN, Ind. (WISH) — Police in Shelby County want to find who vandalized a historic cemetery in Morristown.
The Morristown Police Department said someone damaged 22 headstones at the Davis-Bennet Cemetery.
Police said the damage happened sometime between Aug. 5 and Aug.12.
Some of the graves inside the cemetery date back to the early 1800s. One of the headstones damaged belongs to a husband and wife. The husband was a veteran of the Revolutionary War.
Police ask anyone with information to come forward to help them with their investigation. The department’s number is 765-763-6748.
At this time, police are unsure the cost amount of damage. The police department says that Greenfield Granite Co. has volunteered to repair the damaged stones.
