Police make arrest in Frankfort death investigation

FRANKFORT, Ind. (WLFI) – The Frankfort Police Department has made an arrest in connection to Tuesday morning’s death investigation.

Police arrested 67-year-old Linda Decker of Frankfort Tuesday. She faces a preliminary charge of murder in connection with the death of 96-year-old Betty Wann, also of Frankfort.

Frankfort police and Wann’s family confirmed Decker is related to the victim.

Frankfort Police Detective Wesley Hickson said they responded to the home at 256 S. Third St. just after 8 a.m.

“Our officers arrived and scanned the scene and located a deceased female in the living room,” said Hickson.

Police also found evidence of forced entry. Detectives collected evidence, photographed the scene and interviewed neighbors earlier Tuesday morning.

Decker was arrested later Tuesday.

“We established what we believed was probable cause that she was involved, and at that point, with the consultation of the Clinton County Prosecutor, the investigators on scene made the determination that she should be taken into custody on the charge of murder,” said Hickson.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday. Hickson said Wann was well-known throughout the community, including the police department.

“We know her as a loving, caring, give you the shirt off her back elderly female that has lived in this community, as far as I know, her whole life,” said Hickson.

Decker has been taken to the Clinton County Jail.
