Project Indy kicks off 4th year connecting teens with summer jobs

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 60-degree Sunday in February is as good a time as any to plan for summer.

Project Indy kicked off its fourth year at local churches Sunday morning in an effort to connect thousands of Indianapolis teens and young adults with jobs and internships come June.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett stopped by Eastern Star Church to start Summer Jobs Sunday. Every Sunday in February, Project Indy and its partners will spend time in the city encouraging people to plan for summer employment.

The program accepts job seekers ages 16-24 and employers that want to hire people or provide support in the form of donations, mentorships, internships and mock interviews.

The Parks Department is also looking for workers — the department has roughly 400 jobs to fill for the summer.

“If you can do our swimming test, if you want to work with kids, if you want to work with our food program, we’ll accept all kinds of people,” said Megan Fetter, chief program officer with Indy Parks.
