Puppy dies after attack by dog running loose in Lebanon neighborhood

LEBANON, Ind. (WISH) — A Lebanon woman was issued citations this week after one of her two loose dogs fatally attacked a man’s puppy.

Glenn Sparks, 67, was walking his 3-month-old puppy on a leash Thursday afternoon on his property, near Cohen and Caraway streets in the Hoosier Estates neighborhood. Two dogs owned by Amanda Jordan, 36, were running loose in the area at the same time. One of Jordan’s dogs attacked and killed the puppy, according to reports given to the Lebanon Police Department, which responded.

On Friday, Deputy Hannah Fisher with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office’s animal control division get statements from Sparks, Jordan and a witness, who confirmed the earlier reports. Fisher issued the following statement about the incident:

Unfortunately, this instance of two dogs running at large resulted in the unwarranted death of another animal, whose owner helplessly witnessed the attack. The Animal Control Division was made aware, after this occurrence, that these two dogs are frequently running loose but had no formal, documented reports of these claims and thus the owner had not been issued warnings or citations previously. If you see a loose dog, please call Dispatch at 765-482-1412 with the location and description of the animal so that law enforcement can potentially prevent events like this from occurring in the future.

The sheriff’s office on Sunday announced that Jordan had been issued the following citiations:

  • Owner allows the dog to stray beyond the owner’s premises
  • Harboring a non-immunized dog

The animal control division was consulting the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office about potential criminal charges in the matter.
