Realignment coming for West Lafayette VA clinic
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – The West Lafayette VA clinic will soon be realigned under the authority of the medical center in Indianapolis rather than Danville, Illinois.
The Department of Veterans Affairs hosted a town hall meeting Friday afternoon to let veterans know of the changes. Officials say veterans shouldn’t notice much of a difference. They can still choose which medical center they want to attend. But with realignment, there will no longer be a time change between the clinic in West Lafayette and the Illiana Medical Center.
News 18 broke the story in July about Dr. Min Choi who remains on a leave of absence from the West Lafayette clinic after a malpractice complaint.
Acting Director for the VA Illiana Health Care System Diana Carranza tells News 18 that Dr. Choi remains on her leave of absence, pending the outcome of the investigation.
“When this issue came up, we immediately reached out to the veteran and his family,” said Carranza. “Everything we do is about the veteran. Everything, regardless of what happens with the physician or not, we want to make sure that the veteran is cared for.”
Carranza says the VA is working to train physicians in customer service and bedside manner so veterans have the best experience.
Officials are not sure when the administration hub for the West Lafayette clinic will change, but hope by the end of the year.
