Reduce the national debt? Petition says sell Montana to Canada

(KXMA) — Hey, Canada — Montana’s got a deal for you.

It’s for the state itself — only $1 trillion.

A petition started at Change.org by poster Ian Hammond argues one way to help reduce the U.S. national debt is by selling off things we don’t need.

Like Montana, according to Hammond.

“We have too much debt and Montana is useless. Just tell them it has beavers or something,” he writes on the petition.

Apparently, at least 6,600 people agree, having signed the online petition.

“This shows the kind of creative, entrepreneurial spirit that makes America great. Also, selling Montana will raise the average temperature of the USA, helping our tourism,” writes signer Victoria Else.

“I’m a Montanan and really hope that becoming Canadian makes me a nicer person,” writes Steve Hammond.

“We can throw in Minnesota for a buy one get one half off kinda deal,” adds Devon Murphy.
