Refresher course at Atterbury focuses on battle scenarios
EDINBURGH, Ind. (AP) – More than 3,500 soldiers are descending on Camp Atterbury this week for a refresher course in how to command a fast-paced battle.
The Daily Journal reports the National Guard’s Indianapolis-based 38th Division is conducting a Warfighter Exercise that will simulate a battle against an enemy whose military is comparable to that of the U.S.
Generals and other high-ranking officers will work in command tents during the exercise. They’ll gather information about the enemy and reports from the field to make decisions on where to send troops or how to react to changes in the battle.
This is the second time the post has hosted a Warfighter Exercise. Gen. Colin Powell participated in the last exercise in 1989.
The training exercise runs through Feb. 13.
