Semi driver loses consciousness while choking on chocolate, crashes into median

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — Indiana State Police says a semi driver lost consciousness after choking on a piece of chocolate, causing him to crash into a median.

Police say 50-year-old Robert Tate of Fayetteville, North Carolina was driving on I-65 Wednesday morning around 10:30.

Tate was traveling northbound in the Lafayette area when he crashed his semi about a mile south of State Road 25.

The truck swerved off of the left side and struck the metal median, ISP said.

A vehicle traveling in the opposite direction was damaged in the crash.

The left lanes of both northbound and southbound I-65 were closed for cleanup.

Tate was taken to a Lafayette hospital with breathing problems.
