Several mailboxes damaged in Lawrence, police investigating
LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) – Lawrence police are looking for the person or group of people responsible for vandalizing a number of mailboxes.
It happened in a neighborhood off Sunnyside Road. and 63rd Street.
At least 20 people were listed as victims on police reports. Many of them woke up to find their mailboxes banged up, knocked over and on the ground.
Lawrence Police said this type of crime can happen anywhere, but it’s the number of homes that were hit that makes this case unique.
“It does happen on occasion but it is kind of unusual for that many to occur overnight like that,” says Deputy Chief Gary Woodruff.
Many neighbors said they’re frustrated they have to replace the mailboxes, but some said they’re just happy the damage wasn’t worse.
Police said they will be stepping up patrols in the area. They said they’ve questioned several people, but are still trying to piece everything together.
Anyone with information is asked to call 317-262-TIPS.
