UPDATE: Two teens were arrested after shots were fired Wednesday night outside Lawrence Central High School. According to a police report, a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old boy were arrested on charges related to the incident.

The older juvenile is preliminarily charged with possession of a machine gun, possession of a firearm on school property, and resisting law enforcement. The 14-year-old was arrested on charges of possession of a firearm on school property, resisting law enforcement, and theft, the report said.

LAWRENCE, Ind. (WISH) — Shots were fired in a parking lot Wednesday night after a boys’ basketball game featuring the Lawrence Township Schools district’s rival high schools, police say.

No one was injured, says Lawrence Police Department Chief Gary Woodruff.

Police were called just after 9:20 p.m. Wednesday to a disturbance in the parking lot of Lawrence Central High School after it had hosted Lawrence North boys basketball game. Woodruff says two shots were fired during the disturbance. Lawrence Central High School is at 7300 E. 56th St., just east of the I-465 interchange.

As officers were clearing the area after the shots had been fired, they found a juvenile inside the gymnasium with a gun. It’s not clear if the juvenile was the one who’d fired the shots earlier. Also, Woodruff says he did not immediately have information on the juvenile’s gender or age.

Lawrence Central Schools sent a message to its “stakeholders” that the juvenile was not a student in the district.

About 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, officers from multiple police agencies were going to through the entire school to clear it.

Lawrence North defeated Lawrence Central 79-61.

“Sent to stakeholders this evening:

“This message is to make our community aware of an incident that took place at the conclusion of the LC/LN Varsity Basketball game this evening at Lawrence Central High School. As fans exited the gym, a fight broke out and a shot was fired outside the building at the athletic entrance. Armed officers responded immediately and the shooter, who does not attend our schools, was apprehended. There were no injuries and the building was immediately evacuated and placed on lock down by Lawrence Police. At this point there is no immediate threat to the school. Parents and community, we need your help in sharing with your children the importance of speaking out when they see individuals who may pose a threat to our community. We are grateful to our first responders, school administration, and for the cooperation of those in the building at the time of the incident. Administration and counselors will be available at our secondary schools for any students needing support.”
