Skeletal remains found in woods on city’s south side

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating after skeletal remains were found on the city’s south side.  According to investigators it appears to be human remains. An official determination will be made by the Marion County Corner’s Office.

IMPD said the remains were found in the woods near the I-465 exit ramp at U.S. 31.

24-Hour News 8 is learning IMPD was called to the wooded area on September 7. Management at a nearby Super 8 Motel called IMPD after someone stated he spotted a body in the woods.Investigators arrived, but left without finding a body.

Then on Monday morning, police received an anonymous call that skeleton remains were in the wooded area near the motel, that’s when police found the bones.

While on the scene investigators questioned the motel’s management about a woman who checked into the motel in early September.

Management didn’t identify the woman, but a manager stated the woman was forced out for fighting in her hotel room, and for drug paraphernalia.

It is unclear if police suspect the bones to belong to the unknown woman.

If you have any information about the bones call Crime Stoppers, at 262-TIPS, or 262-8477.
