Squatters likely to blame for fire at vacant building
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Crews with the Indianapolis Fire Department responded to a structure fire on the city’s northwest side Wednesday morning.
According to the department, the fire happened at building in the 3000 block of West 16th Street just before 8 a.m.
Crews got the fire under control within in minutes of arriving on scene.
The department said the fire was caused by squatters living in the vacant structure when a fire they were using to get warm got out of control.
There were no injuries involved in the fire.
Damage to the structure has been estimated at $30,000.
