State park offering $5 firewood

BROWN COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) — Those looking for firewood to finish out the winter months will have the opportunity in the coming weeks to chop some at Brown County State Park.

Anyone with a firewood permit will be allowed to cut, and purchase, wood from trees taken down by the park staff, the Brown County Democrat reports.

The cost of the wood is $5 per pickup truck load.

Those permits can be obtained starting next Monday, Feb. 9, at the park office and cutting days will be determined by weather conditions.

While some ash trees affected by the emerald ash borer are among the available wood, most of the hazard trees are not ash, according to the Democrat.

Anyone purchasing the wood, regardless of species, is expected to comply with any declared quarantines and remove all bark from the wood before returning it to or using it at the park.

More information about obtaining firewood permits can be found on the Indiana Department of Natural Resources website.
