Woman who died in Indiana police shooting was wanted for fatal shooting in Ohio
(WISH) — A woman who died in an Indiana State Police shooting near Frankfort, Indiana, on Monday morning had been wanted for a deadly shooting earlier in the morning near Cincinnati.
The Springfield Township, Ohio, police chief identified the woman shot dead in Indiana as Terea Brown, 42. The chief believes Brown killed Lacresha Black, 33, who was found dead after 7 a.m. Monday outside the front door of her Springfield Township home. Investigators say Brown fled the scene in a dark-colored 2014 Chevrolet Cruze.
In a news release issued Monday night, Indiana State Police say its troopers were alerted just after 9:30 a.m. Monday to the SUV Brown was driving northbound on I-65. Troopers caught up with Brown about 4 miles north of the State Road 38 exit for Sheridan and Thorntown.
About 9 miles up I-65, the SUV exited at the State Road 28 exit for Frankfort and Attica, which is about a 10-minute drive west of Frankfort.
A social media post from Indiana State Police’s Lafayette post said about the SUV, “It came to a stop on County Road 800 W, just south of State Road 28. At that point, a shot was fired from the vehicle and by troopers.”
A spokesperson with the Indiana State Police earlier told News 8 that the shooting ended near the BP gas station and Get Go convenience store at the State Road 28 exit.
“Indiana State Police SWAT arrived on the scene and approached the vehicle using an armored vehicle. Upon entry, SWAT officers discovered a deceased individual inside the vehicle. No other occupants were found. During the course of the investigation, a firearm was recovered from inside the suspect’s vehicle,” the social media post said.
Sgt. John Perrine with Indiana police told News 8 that no officers were injured. The post said no one else was injured.
Indiana State Police will submit information from its investigation, once completed, to the Clinton County prosecutor for review.
Springfield Township is about a 20-minute drive north of downtown Cincinnati.
