Strong storms slide in Friday with cooler temps for the weekend

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Good Thursday morning, everyone! After a few storms moved through last evening, we’ve cleared out this Thursday morning.

Strong storms will move through the upper-Midwest today and that threat will shift our direction tomorrow, bringing better storm chances and windy conditions to close out the work week.

As you head out the door this morning, prepare for a warm and humid day. We’ll start off in the low 70s in most areas.

Temperatures will climb quickly today with a stiff, south wind.

High temps will top out in the low 90s in many areas this afternoon.

That’s roughly 10-15° above average in most areas and just shy of a record here in Indy set back in 1940.

With the heat and humidity, a few storms are possible this afternoon and early evening, but better storm chances move in Friday.

We’ll drop into the upper 60s and low 70s by daybreak Friday.

A noticeable southwest wind will start to whip up through the overnight and continue through most of the day Friday. Expect wind gusts as high as 30 mph or more. Tie down any trash cans or loose objects you don’t want to go flying!

Temps tomorrow will climb quickly with the southwest wind, topping out in the mid 80s.

Isolated rain is possible as early as midday, but better storm chances will slide through as a cold front pushes through tomorrow evening.

Damaging wind and small hail are possible across most of the area, though the overall threat is slim.

Outside of a few lingering storms, high school football should go smoothly tomorrow evening as rain will be moving out.

Behind the front, expect a drastically cooler weekend with highs in the upper 60s Saturday and highs topping out in the mid 70s Sunday. That’s basically what you’re waking up to this morning.

College football weather looks great this weekend, be it the Purdue Homecoming game, Michigan St. at IU or the Ball State game in Muncie.

Temps will remain comfy through the rest of the 8-Day forecast past tomorrow.

Rain chances will start to rise into next week.

We’ll see a good amount of rain Monday and Tuesday before drying out by mid-week next week. Highs will remain in the low to mid 70s.
